Ministry In The Church | Part II
Ministry In The Church: Worship Warriors at Work
Series: The Vision of the Church
Text: Ephesians 4:7–16; Nehemiah 4:17–20
Theme: Christ calls every believer to ministry as a worship warrior — with one hand building His Church, and the other hand wielding the weapons of spiritual warfare.
Ephesians 4:7–16;
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”
(Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Nehemiah 4:17–20
Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon. Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me.
Then I said to the nobles, the rulers, and the rest of the people, “The work is great and extensive, and we are separated far from one another on the wall. Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.”
1. Grace for Every Believer
Ephesians 4:7 – Grace given to each one.
1 Corinthians 12:7 – Each receives the Spirit’s manifestation.
Romans 12:6 – Differing gifts, same grace.
👉 No believer is giftless. You are called to carry both the trowel and the sword.
2. Christ the Victorious Giver
Ephesians 4:8 – He ascended and gave gifts.
Colossians 2:15 – He disarmed powers and authorities.
Hebrews 2:14 – He destroyed the one who had the power of death.
👉 Your gifts flow from His victory. Every talent is a weapon against darkness.
3. The Fivefold Ministry: Equipping the Army
Ephesians 4:11 – Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers.
1 Corinthians 14:3 – Prophets strengthen and encourage.
1 Peter 5:2–3 – Pastors shepherd the flock.
👉 Leaders don’t do all the work — they train the builders and arm the warriors.
4. Equipping the Saints for the Work
Ephesians 4:12 – Saints are equipped to minister.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 – The Word equips for every good work.
Nehemiah 4:18 – Builders worked with swords at their sides.
👉 Healthy churches train saints to build the wall and fight the enemy.
5. The Goal: Maturity & Unity
Ephesians 4:13–14 – Grow into maturity, stability, and unity.
Colossians 1:28 – Present everyone mature in Christ.
James 1:22 – Be doers of the Word.
👉 Ministry is not just activity — it’s transformation into Christlike warriors.
6. The Whole Body at Work
Ephesians 4:15–16 – Growth when each part does its share.
Romans 12:5 – One body, many members.
Nehemiah 4:20 – “Our God will fight for us.”
The wall only rises when everyone builds; the enemy only falls when everyone fights.
Key Truths:
“With one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon.” – Nehemiah 4:17
“From whom the whole body… causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” – Ephesians 4:16
Reflection:
Which “hand” do I need to strengthen more in my walk — the builder’s hand (service) or the warrior’s hand (Prayer/Worship/ Giving/Serve/ Evangelism/)
